If you have been researching ceramic coatings for your car, you will have seen plenty of bold claims about shine, water beading and long-lasting protection. However, not every ceramic coating is the same—and even the best product will only perform properly when the vehicle is prepared and the coating is applied correctly.
At CSC Detailing, we use Labocosmetica, a specialist Italian car-care brand developed by MA-FRA. Its system covers every stage of professional detailing, from safe washing and decontamination to paint correction, ceramic protection and ongoing maintenance.
We chose Labocosmetica because it gives us a complete, compatible system rather than relying on unrelated products from several manufacturers. More importantly, its coatings allow us to select the right protection for the vehicle, its paint finish and the way the owner uses it.
What is a ceramic coating?
A ceramic coating is a liquid protective treatment applied to a properly prepared surface. As it cures, it bonds with the paintwork and creates a durable protective layer.
Unlike a traditional wax or short-term sealant, a ceramic coating is designed to offer longer-lasting resistance to environmental contamination while making the vehicle easier to clean. Depending on the coating selected, correct application and maintenance, the benefits can include:
- A deeper, glossier finish
- Strong water repellency and easier drying
- Reduced dirt adhesion and easier maintenance washing
- Resistance to UV exposure and chemical contamination
- Protection against bird droppings, road grime and traffic film
- Reduced risk of light wash-induced marks due to the slicker surface
A ceramic coating does not make paint scratch-proof or stone-chip-proof. It will not stop damage caused by poor washing, automatic car washes or physical impact. What it does provide is a durable sacrificial layer that helps protect the finish beneath it.
Why Labocosmetica?
Labocosmetica combines detailing chemistry with a structured process for washing, correcting, protecting and maintaining a vehicle. The range is developed and manufactured in Italy by MA-FRA, a company whose automotive-care history dates back to 1965.
The brand’s coating range includes different technologies and levels of protection. This means we can recommend a package based on what your car actually needs rather than applying the same product to every vehicle.
Labocosmetica also states that its coating collection is PFAS-free. For us, the attraction is not simply a headline durability figure; it is the combination of gloss, hydrophobic behaviour, chemical resistance, repairability and a maintenance system designed to support the coating throughout its life.
Labocosmetica ceramic coatings explained
HPC 2.0: versatile hydrophobic protection
HPC 2.0 is a hybrid polysiloxane coating designed to create a very smooth, water-repellent finish. Labocosmetica rates it for protection of up to 24 months or 30,000 km, subject to preparation, use and maintenance.
It can be used as a stand-alone coating or as a top coat over another compatible coating. Its slick surface helps dirt release more easily during washing and can reduce friction during careful hand maintenance. It is also suitable for matt finishes because it is designed not to alter their appearance or colour saturation.
HPC PRO: professional-grade performance
HPC PRO is aimed at professional applications where enhanced hydrophobic behaviour, gloss, slickness and durability are required. The correct product and coating combination will depend on the paint, expected usage, finish and protection package selected after inspection.
This is where professional product knowledge matters: the best option is not automatically the coating with the biggest number on the label. It is the system that suits the car and can be installed and maintained correctly.
STC: a durable ceramic base
STC is an authorised-user ceramic treatment described by Labocosmetica as a 70% physical and 30% chemical coating. It is designed to provide resistance against road salt, tar, acid rain, pollution and UV exposure while producing deep gloss and making the surface easier to wash.
STC can form part of a layered system, with a compatible top coat selected to add slickness and hydrophobic performance.
Labocosmetica’s own instructions make clear that careful decontamination, correction and degreasing are essential before it is applied.
Blindo Plus: a hard, repairable base coat
Blindo Plus is Labocosmetica’s hard-resin clear base coat. It creates a very thin transparent layer designed to improve resistance to mineral deposits, corrosive contamination, chemicals and abrasion.
It can be layered within the Labocosmetica system and, importantly, is designed to be repairable: it can be polished, reapplied or topped with a compatible HPC coating. Labocosmetica states a duration of at least 30,000 km without maintenance, although the condition and real-world life of any coating will always be influenced by mileage, storage, washing and environmental exposure.
SAM: balanced stand-alone protection
SAM uses Self-Assembled Monolayer technology and can be installed as a single-layer coating. Labocosmetica rates it for a minimum of 30,000 km or two years and describes it as an 80% chemical and 20% physical coating. It is designed to balance chemical protection, hydrophobic performance and gloss.
More than coatings: a complete car-care system
One reason we use Labocosmetica is that the protection does not begin and end with the coating bottle. The wider range supports the full detailing process, including:
- Safe pre-washing and washing to loosen grime before contact with the paint
- The 3pH wash system, using complementary alkaline, neutral and acidic cleaning stages when appropriate
- Chemical decontamination to remove iron particles, tar, mineral deposits and embedded contamination
- Compounds and polishes for removing or refining swirls, haze and other paint defects
- VÈRITAS panel preparation to remove residues before coating application
- Maintenance products that clean coated surfaces without unnecessarily masking or damaging their behaviour
- Specialist protection for paint, matt finishes, PPF, wheels, glass and exterior trim
Using compatible products gives us control over each stage and helps us diagnose issues such as mineral build-up or contamination that can make a healthy coating appear to have stopped working.
Why should you use a certified ceramic coating installer?
Buying a premium coating does not guarantee a premium result. The installer’s preparation, environment, technique and aftercare advice are just as important as the product itself.
1. The paint is professionally assessed first
Every vehicle is different. Even a brand-new car can arrive with light swirls, sanding marks, transport contamination or dealership-applied fillers. A certified installer will inspect the paint and explain what correction is needed before locking the finish beneath a coating.
2. Preparation is completed properly
Labocosmetica’s application guidance calls for the surface to be decontaminated, stripped of previous waxes or sealants, corrected where required and thoroughly degreased. Applying a coating over contamination or polishing oils can compromise its bond and trap defects beneath it.
Our preparation can include a multi-stage wash, chemical decontamination, clay treatment where appropriate, machine polishing and a final panel wipe. This is often the most time-consuming part of the service—and it is also the part that determines the quality of the finished result.
3. The coating is matched to the vehicle
A daily-driven family car, a weekend performance car, matt paint and PPF do not necessarily need the same coating. Training and product knowledge allow a certified installer to recommend the correct base coat, top coat and maintenance plan rather than using a one-size-fits-all package.
4. Application conditions are controlled
Temperature, humidity, dust, lighting and curing conditions all affect coating application. High spots or residue can be difficult to correct once a coating cures. Professional lighting helps the installer see the coating as it flashes and level it correctly, while suitable indoor conditions allow the vehicle to cure away from rain and contamination.
For coatings such as STC, Labocosmetica advises a covered, dust-free environment and notes that temperature and humidity influence working time. Its guidance also describes partial curing within 12 hours, full curing within 36 hours and avoiding washing for the first 7–10 days.
5. You receive genuine products and informed aftercare
A certified installer uses the appropriate professional products and understands how they should be layered, cured and maintained. You should also leave knowing when the car can first get wet or be washed, which products to use, which methods to avoid and when to book an inspection or maintenance detail.
6. The coating promise is realistic
Durability figures are not a guarantee that every vehicle will perform identically for the full stated period. A car covering high motorway mileage and living outside faces different conditions from a garaged weekend car. Correct washing and periodic decontamination are essential.
A professional installer should explain this honestly. Be cautious of anyone claiming that ceramic coating makes a car maintenance-free, impossible to scratch or protected from stone chips.
What happens during a CSC Detailing ceramic coating service?
The exact process depends on the condition of the car and the package selected, but a typical service includes:
- Detailed vehicle and paint inspection
- Safe pre-wash and contact wash
- Removal of tar, iron fallout and bonded contamination
- Paint-depth checks where required
- Machine polishing or paint correction to the agreed level
- Final inspection under specialist lighting
- Thorough panel preparation and degreasing
- Application of the selected Labocosmetica coating system
- Controlled curing and final checks
- Clear maintenance and aftercare guidance
We do not use a coating to hide poor paintwork. Our aim is to improve the finish first, then protect the result.
How should a ceramic-coated car be maintained?
Ceramic coatings make maintenance easier, but they still need to be looked after. For the best long-term performance:
- Use safe pre-wash and hand-washing methods
- Avoid automatic car washes and harsh wash brushes
- Use clean, high-quality wash mitts and drying towels
- Remove bird droppings and insect residue promptly
- Do not wash the vehicle during the initial curing period advised by your installer
- Book periodic maintenance and decontamination when required
If water behaviour reduces, it does not always mean the coating has failed. Traffic film, mineral deposits and contamination can temporarily mask its hydrophobic properties. A suitable professional clean may restore the coating’s performance.
Is a Labocosmetica ceramic coating worth it?
For drivers who want long-lasting gloss, easier cleaning and meaningful protection from everyday contamination, a professionally installed ceramic coating can be an excellent investment.
The greatest value comes from the complete service: honest inspection, safe preparation, paint correction, the correct coating, controlled application and ongoing guidance. That is the difference between simply putting a product on a car and professionally protecting its finish.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a Labocosmetica ceramic coating last?
It depends on the product and coating system selected. Labocosmetica publishes figures including up to 24 months or 30,000 km for HPC 2.0 and two years or 30,000 km for SAM. Actual lifespan depends on correct preparation and application, mileage, storage, washing technique, maintenance and environmental exposure.
Will ceramic coating remove scratches?
No. Scratches, swirls, haze and water-spot etching should be removed or improved through machine polishing before the coating is applied. A coating protects the corrected finish; it does not replace paint correction.
Can ceramic coating stop stone chips?
No. Ceramic coating is not a substitute for paint protection film. It can help resist chemical contamination and light wash-related marking, but it cannot prevent damage from stones or physical impacts.
Can Labocosmetica coatings be used on matt paint or PPF?
Selected products can. For example, Labocosmetica states that HPC 2.0 is suitable for matt finishes and can also be used on PPF. The product must be chosen to suit the surface so that the intended finish is preserved.
Why does a new car need polishing before ceramic coating?
New cars are not always defect-free. They may have transport contamination, light scratches, machine marks or dealership preparation damage. We inspect every vehicle and only recommend the correction needed to produce a suitable finish before coating.
Is a ceramic-coated car maintenance-free?
No. It should be easier to wash and keep clean, but safe washing and periodic decontamination are still required. Poor washing can still mark the paint and reduce the coating’s useful life.
